Save Ray's

City Council is still taking about knocking down Guelph institution The Family Thrift Store, a great old-fashioned junk shop combined with one of the most unique live music venues in Canada. The plan being proposed is a new public library.

There is a protest scheduled for later today, Tuesday February 17, before the City Council meeting at 7pm.

If you want to speak at the meeting, phone 519-822-1260 ext 2269 (city clerk's office) or email here.

Details of the proposed plans here.

There is a facebook group for the store, Friends of the Family Thrift Store.

RIP Lux Interior

The lead singer of one of MEOW!'s fave bands, The Cramps, has just passed away. The Cramps combined everything that's important in life: sexiness, style, old records, rock n' roll, and a lust for life. A sad day. Our hearts go out to his lady love, Poison Ivy Rorschach.

Here they are from back in the day, performing live at a mental hospital:

New Neighbours!

Meow! has new neighbours. We'd like to welcome The Guelph Civic League to the neighbourhood.

The Civic League is a non-profit organization devoted to better city planning, support of local businesses, heritage conservation, and ecology. They have new office space right above Meow!, in the upstairs part of our building where Beadazzled used to be. The office space is officially called "10 Carden" (our shared address) and is available for rental or use as meeting space for local groups. It's billed as "A Space for Change."

Just like Meow!, it is a beautiful heritage space, right across from City Hall and with lots of potential for our community. Check out the links above for a sneak peak and loads of background info. Photos here.
